In August 2015, Midland County Road Commission (MCRC) and Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) personnel conducted a Local Safety Initiative Review of roadway corridor and intersections within Midland County. The review identified the top 10 corridors and intersections where vehicle crashes are occurring.
The Eastman Road corridor and the Eastman-Bombay intersection were both highlighted in the review as having high crash histories. MCRC personnel applied for and received a $600,000 (90%) High Risk Rural Road (HRRR) Safety Program Grant to reduce crashes that have been occurring at these locations. There are several businesses located within this portion of Eastman Road and two intersections. Eastman Road has a jog in it as it continues from Larkin Township north into Mills Township through the intersection of Bombay Road.
